Believe it or not, becoming a good writer and scoring well on the GRE writing test are two very different things. These sample GRE essays would be considered poor writing in most contexts, but on the GRE these are strong essays. The GRE wants your worst writing in a sense: good writing comes from good editing and revising. There's no time to take your first draft and really make it better on the GRE. So when you practice for the GRE, you want to write one draft only - the opposite of what you want to do in real life (in real life you want to write many drafts). You are welcome to post your timed essays on the GRE writing practice message boards . Please do not be shy about joining the discussion; a little discussion can be motivating and a little feedback can improve your writing score on the Graduate Recognition Exam.
